Textiles – Fabric Decoration
Lesley’s interest in dyeing and batik started when travelling in Nigeria where she saw indigo dyed textiles with patterns created using a resist of cassava root paste.
On return to England she experimented with dyeing and resist techniques and became increasingly interested in Javanese batik, visiting Yogyakarta in 1996 for an intensive batik course.
She now works on silk creating original batiks using the traditional process of applying hot wax and dip dyeing the fabric.
The ever-changing forms and colours of trees in the landscape are the inspiration for many of her designs. The beautiful shapes and elegant patterns lend themselves to the art of batik.
Lesley is a member of the Batik Guild.
