George Hider

Welded Metal Sculptures

Brought up with a philosophy of “waste not, want not”, George finds his inspiration in material that would normally just  be dumped.  With a military background and time spent working in an engineering environment, he soon realised his ability to imagine a use for metal destined for the scrap bin.

By welding together pieces carefully chosen from discarded steel, George began to create simple sculptural forms.  Over the years this natural talent has developed to create increasingly more lifelike sculptures.  He loves to capture the character and spirit of the subjects who unwittingly model for him.

His work is becoming nationally well known and finding its way into the possession of collectors of modern British Art
