21st June to  26th July

Watercolours by John Newberry RWS are featured at a special exhibition at the Courthouse Gallery in June. Depicting unique scenes of Somerton and surrounding areas the collection will also include a selection of work from John's extensive travels. His adventures have taken him all over the world, from Cairo, Tangier and Singapore to Sydney, Sri Lanka, Damascus and St Lucia.

Having originally opted to read Architecture at Cambridge, there followed a change in degree course to Fine Art at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, followed by a period of nearly 30 years teaching at the Ruskin School of Drawing.

John's on location approach and use of watercolours ensures the spontaneity of a scene is swiftly captured, depicting those fleeting moments before the environment changes. His unusual viewpoints from low ground level often encompass 180 degree angles which are most noticeable in his architectural images.

John is a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and has exhibited widely across the UK, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Duncan Campbell Gallery, Kensington, the Ashmolean Museum and Christ Church Picture Gallery, Oxford.
